A Short Checklist For Men Over 40
Not everything is worth worrying about, and not everything is worth ignoring. This is a short list to help you tell the two apart.
Worth Raising With A Clinician
- A change in energy or sleep that has held steady for more than six weeks.
- Feeling unrested after a full night, repeatedly, for a month or more.
- A clear drop in exercise tolerance compared with a year ago.
- Anything that worries you enough that you have looked it up twice.
Usually Not A Signal On Its Own
- One bad week after travel, illness or a heavy stretch at work.
- A single poor night of sleep, however unpleasant.
- Feeling flat during a fortnight of unusually high stress.
What The Evidence Actually Supports
- Consistent sleep and wake times, regular moderate movement, and honest accounting of alcohol are the three habits with the strongest and least controversial evidence behind them. They are also the least exciting, which is why they get skipped.
- Nothing on this page diagnoses, treats, cures or prevents any condition, and none of it replaces medical advice.
What The Presentation Adds
The next page is a roughly forty-minute video presentation from an independent publisher. It covers the same ground as this checklist in a good deal more depth.
